Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a campus-based federal aid program administered by the U.S. Department of Education through participating schools. It is designed for undergraduates with exceptional financial need, and priority typically goes to students who also receive the Pell Grant. The program is open to both women and men.
As a grant, the FSEOG generally does not have to be repaid. Funds are intended to support undergraduate education costs and are awarded on top of other aid a student may receive. Because each participating school receives a fixed pool of funds and awards them until the money runs out, applying early is important.
Students apply by submitting the FAFSA at studentaid.gov. The school's financial-aid office then determines eligibility based on financial need and decides the award amount from its available funds. The FSEOG is not awarded simply on request — eligibility is determined through the FAFSA process.
